Preparations of the ruling administration party, Partido Demokratiko Pilipino – Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) for the upcoming 2019 midterm polls suffered a setback following the reported resignation of one of its top-ranking officials.
Multiple sources told Politiko that Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) President and General Manager Jesus Clint Aranas has resigned as treasurer of the ruling party. As party treasurer, Aranas was assigned to track and raise campaign funds for next year’s elections.
It is still unclear if Aranas also resigned as member of the main political entity of President Rodrigo Duterte.
The resignation of Aranas first broke within the ruling party’s circle in the early part of October.
Some observers believed that the departure of the GSIS president from the President Duterte’s party might derail preparation for the upcoming campaign period.
PDP Laban has yet to name Aranas’ replacement as party treasurer.
