Guevarra orders NBI to look into entry of large drug shipments: Lahat iimbestigahan!
Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra has ordered the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to investigate the latest billion-peso large-scale drug shipments which managed to enter the country.
“I have directed the NBI to investigate the latest incidents of drug smuggling,” he said on Monday (August 13).
“Considering the huge value of the illegal drugs involved, and the relative ease by which they were transported into Philippine territory, our investigation will consider all government agencies, particularly the BOC, and private shippers, brokers, cargo handlers, warehousemen, even other law enforcement agents, who may have something to do with these unlawful acts,” he pointed out.
Guevarra made the statement after two separate shipments of shabu managed to get into the country.
One of the shipments was discovered last August 7 at the Manila International Container Port (MICP).
The shabu shipment was estimated to be P4.3-billion and was found concealed in two magnetic lifters.
On the other hand, authorities found last August 8 four more magnetic lifters in Cavite but were already empty and only traces of shabu were found.
The missing drug shipment in Cavite is estimated to be P6.8 billion.
Last 2017, P6.4 billion worth of shabu was also found to have slipped through the Bureau of Customs (BOC).
