Guevarra vows not to meddle in libel cases filed vs. Trillanes: ‘Di magandang tingnan!
Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra has assured he will not meddle into the libel complaint filed against Senator Antonio Trillanes IV.
“I will not interfere in the conduct of the preliminary investigation. It is not proper,” he said on Saturday (Sept. 8).
Former Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte and his brother-in-law, lawyer Manases Carpio, have filed separate libel complaints against Trillanes before the Davao City Prosecutors’ Office.
The complaints stemmed from the statements made by Trillanes during his Sept. 8, 2017 radio interview over DYAB Cebu.
On the other hand, Guevarra also assured that the libel of complaint is not part of the continued assault against Trillanes whose amnesty was recently voided by President Rodrigo Duterte.
The Secretary pointed out the latest complaints “had nothing to do with the nullification of the senator’s amnesty.”
“The libel complaints were filed on the anniversary date of the utterance of the allegedly defamatory statements,” he said.
“The timing was purely coincidental with the amnesty issue,” he added.
