Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque Jr. is set to travel abroad on personal purpose starting Wednesday.
In a message shared to reporters today, Roque clarified he will not be joining President Rodrigo Duterte’s trip to Bali, Indonesia for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Leaders’ Gathering this week.
Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Director Dennis Ting early morning said the spokesman has gone on leave starting Monday.
“Pls be advised that Presidential Spokesperson will be on leave starting today, Monday, October 8,” Ting said.
The PCOO official however said that Roque will still respond to “all requests for statements” from reporters covering Malacañang.
Roque’s leave came days after Duterte advised him to stay in the Cabinet and offered him a new post. The former Kabayan party-list representative is considering a senatorial bid in the 2019 midterm elections.
On October 5, Roque expressed disappointment over being kept in the dark about Duterte’s recent hospital visit for check-up. He maintained he did not know the President went to Cardinal Santos Medical Center in San Juan City on October 3 for some medical test.
