Here’s why Trump won’t attend correspondents’ dinner
US President Donald Trump’s Deputy Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said that he will be focusing on other matters when he skips the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner.
Trump earlier announced on Twitter that he will not be attending the event.
“I think it’s kind of naive of us to think that we can all walk into a room for a couple of hours and pretend that some of that tension isn’t there,” a New York Post article published online on February 26 quoted Sanders as telling ABC’s “This Week.”
“There’s no reason for him to go in and sit and pretend like this is going to be just another Saturday night,” she said.
According to the article, she said that Trump will be paying attention to protecting borders, national security and growing the economy.
“This wasn’t a president that was elected to spend his time with reporters and celebrities, this is a president who campaigned on speaking directly to Americans, and that’s what he’s going to spend his time doing,” Sanders said.
