Honasan to resign from Senate to head DICT
Senator Gringo Honasan has accepted President Rodrigo Duterte’s offer to head the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), Politiko has learned.
A source who is close to Honasan told the tabloid Abante, Politiko’s sister firm, that the senator will resign in December in preparation for his new job as DICT Secretary.
While Honasan has said yes to Duterte, he is tight lipped about the appointment because he wants to finish his work at the Senate.
The chamber will be busy in the remaining months of the year deliberating on and passing the proposed P3.757-trillion national budget for 2019.
Honasan, who is on his second term as senator, has yet to reply to questions about his appointment to DICT as of posting time.
The agency is currently headed by Eliseo Rio in an acting capacity.
On Tuesday (October 16), Senate President Tito Sotto hinted that Honasan may leave the Senate soon for a Cabinet post.
At the opening of the Gallery of Legacy at the Senate, Sotto said: ”I hope the distinguished general who might accept a Cabinet post might also be steadfast and continue to be of help to the Senate.”
Honasan was a retired army officer.
