Hontiveros lauds Church’s proactive role vs EJKs
Senator Risa Hontiveros has described as “welcome development” the move of some policemen to “confess” to Church officials their involvement in the summary execution of drug personalities.
The Catholic Bishops of the Philippines (CBCP) on Monday said it will open their gates to any member of the police force who would like to turn their backs on “any orders” to conduct extrajudicial killing of drug suspects.
“I laud the Catholic Church’s decision to take a more pro-active role in this issue, particularly in providing sanctuary to witnesses, including those who came from the ranks of the police force,” Hontiveros said.
“I hope that through the Church’s help, more truth-tellers and whistleblowers will step into the light to help us bring justice to all the victims of extrajudicial killings and end the government’s murderous drug war,” she said.
