House ‘big guns’ lend stabilizing presence in Mamasapano probe

Apr 7, 2015 @ 14:00

The “big guns” in the Lower House attended the Mamasapano hearing April 7 which  immediately provided a stabilizing presence to the committee meeting.

Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr. led the top brass present in the hering including Deputy Speakers Giorgidi Aggabao and Sergio Apostol Jr., Deputy Majority Leader Arthur Defensor Jr., Minority Leader Ronaldo Zamora, Ilocos Norte Rep. Rodolfo Farinas, and Cavite Rep. Elpidio Barzaga Jr.

Bayan Muna, however,  claimed that the group did not only force members to toe the line, they also “lawyered” for the President in shooting down the request of Makbayan for the President to attend the Mamasapno probe and  answer 20 questions.

“It is deplorable that the Congress majority big guns in the Mamasapano hearing acted like Pres. Aquino’s lawyers and defenders at the expense of truth and accountability,” said Senior Deputy Minority Leader Neri Colmenares.

“This is not a court proceeding and President Aquino is just being invited or urged to at least answer the 20 questions raised. We will still persevere in the hearing to prove that it is only Pres. Aquino who can answer our questions on his responsibilities and accountabilities,” added Rep. Colmenares

Bayan Muna  Rep. Carlos Isagani Zarate said Aquino’s spin-doctors must now be very pleased that the “yellow-washing” of the Mamasapano Bloody Debacle continues with the refusal of the House Majority to even send formal written questions to the president.

“Only the president can personally and officially answer the 20 questions raised by the Makabayan bloc and no one else. We are challenging then Pres. Aquino to voluntarily answer those questions under oath. Otherwise, his so-called commitment to seek the truth is empty and pagbabaluktot sa katotohanan!”  Zarate said.
