House ready to arrest Imee Marcos if she snubs probe on Ilocos Norte’s P66M vehicle scam
The House of Representatives is “absolutely prepared” to order the arrest of Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos if she defies the subpoena for her to testify in the committee’s subsequent hearing on July 25.
“What we issued was a subpoena and a show cause order why she should not be cited in contempt if she fails to attend the July 25 hearing,” Surigao del Sur Rep. Johnny Pimentel, chair of the committee on good government and public accountability.
“We do not want to embarrass the Governor. However, if she forces our hand, of course we are ready to do a Ronnie Dayan on her, in accordance with House rules,” Pimentel said in a statement,
Dayan, the former lover and driver of Senator Leila de Lima, was arrested by the police and hauled to the House after he defied a subpoena to attend a committee hearing on the illegal drug trade and went into hiding in remote mountain-top farm.
Marcos is being accused of buying P66 million worth of second-hand and allegedly overpriced multicabs, buses and trucks without any bidding.
Six of her allies in the Ilocos Norte provincial capitol have been detained in the Batasan complex since May 29 for refusing to divulge documents and information on the anomalous purchase of the vehicles. Marcos snubbed previous invitations to attend the hearing.
