How to say it: Teddy Locsin advises Maria Ressa on ‘Hold the line’ speech vs ‘idiot’ SEC ruling

Teddy Locsin Jr., the country’s permanent representative to the United Nations, has come up with a better “Hold the line” statement for Rappler boss Maria Ressa after a government crackdown on the online media entity.

“WE WILL HOLD THE LINE, STAND OUR GROUND, DIG IN OUR HEELS, PUSH BACK AS FAR AS WE CAN AS DUTY DEMANDS, AND FIGHT TO THE FINISH. SURE MORE LIKELY OUR FINISH BUT DOWN SHALL WE GO WITH THE HONOR OF WHICH THEY ARE BEREFT. How to say it,” Locsin tweeted.

Locsin, a lawyer and a journalist, is a former speechwriter of the late President Corazon Aquino.

He was reacting to Ressa’s remarks that she and the rest of Rappler team would continue to fight for what is right following the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) revokation of their license to operate due to foreign ownership.

“I am extremely stubborn. When we fight for what is right, we will stand the line,” Ressa said in a recent press conference shortly after SEC released its decision against Rappler.

Locsin also rallied behind Rappler, calling the SEC ruling an “idiot” decision.

“You will get more favorable publicity by this idiot decision than any story you can write. Next accusation: you bribed SEC to rule against you. All the best,” he tweeted Ressa.
