Such hypocrisy! UP’s Winnie Monsod slams Alvarez for flaunting affair after letting House roast De Lima

Apr 2, 2017 @ 17:06

Former socioeconomic plannign secretary Solita “Mareng Winnie” Monsod is appalled at how Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez merely shrugged off his affair with another woman when he had no qualms about his colleagues’ scrutiny of Senator Leila de Lima’s relationship with her former driver and bodyguard.

In her April 1 column for the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Monsod hit Alvarez for using a “double standard” when it comes to his relationship with a certain Jennifer Maliwanag Vicencio.

She noted that while Alvarez seemingly has no problem flaunting his affair with Vicencio, he never raised a howl when De Lima’s relationship with Ronnie Dayan was scrutinized even if her marriage has already been annulled when they met.

“In his own defense, he said he had never castigated De Lima about her love life. Maybe. But he did not prevent his colleagues, who must have known about HIS love life, from doing so,” Monsod said of Alvarez.

“Such hypocrisy. Out with that double standard,” she added.

Monsod said Alvarez’s selective application of values is also evident in his decision to file a graft complaint against his erstwhile close friend, Davao del Norte Rep. Antonio “Tonyboy” Floirendo, when he had known about the allegedly questionable contract a company owned by the latter entered into with the Bureau of Corrections.

In light of Alvarez’s cockiness in facing the latest controversy hounding him– even daring the Integrated Bar of the Philippines to disbar him for immorality– Monsod urged Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales to step into the picture and ensure the rule of law is obeyed.
