Ikaw lang senador? Liberal Party hits Gordon’s solo act on Dengvaxia report

The Liberal Party (LP) came to the defense of former President Noynoy Aquino, slamming Senate Blue Ribbon committee chair Dick Gordon for releasing the committee report on the controversial Dengvaxia vaccine even before it has been signed by other senators.
“Why was the committee report released to the public before it has been filed or sponsored? Are not the signatures of majority of the committee members required before the report can be filed?” said former Deputy Speaker and LP vice president on external affairs Erin Tañada in a statement.
“What happens to the report if the majority disagrees? Wala pang pirma eh,” Tañada added.
Gordon unveiled the report to the media on Wednesday (April 11), saying it is only his report, which is still subject to approval and amendments from other senators.
Despite having no nods yet on his report, Gordon confidently said only Liberal senators would thumb down the report.
The former ruling party also dismissed the report as a mere “smokescreen” to hide issues hounding the present administration.
“Nais na naman nilang ilihis ang isyu mula sa kapalpakan at kontrobersyang bumabalot sa administrasyong ito para matuon sa LP ang galit ng taumbayan,” Tañada said.
However, the party’s statement does not contain anything which attempts to disprove the Gordon report.
Gordon recommended criminal raps filed against Aquino, former Health Secretary Janette Garin, former Budget Secretary Butch Abad and several other government officials.
“Aquino, Garin, Abad, and other officials are primary conspirators and must be held criminally liable,” Gordon said in his report.
However, rejected Health Secretary Paulyn Ubial is not among the government officials who Gordon recommended raps against, as he believes that she acted “under duress” in expanding the Dengvaxia vaccination program.
LP vice president on internal affairs and Ifugao Rep. Teddy Baguilat cast doubt on the fairness of Gordon’s report as it seems to single out officials from the former administration.
“Hindi lang sa nakaraang administrasyon ipinatupad ang bakuna sa Dengvaxia kundi sa kasalukuyang administrasyon. Nakakapagtaka na nakatuon lang ang report ni Sen. Gordon sa nakalipas na administrasyon,” Baguilat said.
