Inggit lang yan! Honasan: Dictator tag on Duterte a sign of popularity
The current Philippine presidency is one of the “most powerful” presidencies in the world, insofar as Sen. Gringo Honasan is concerned.
He made the remark when asked about the need for President Rodrigo Duterte to intervene in the apparent tiff between House Speakee Bebot Alvarez and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.
The two closest allies of the President in the ruling Partido ng Demokratikong Pilipino (PDP) Laban had a “misunderstanding” when Sara launched her own local political party, Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP).
“Nakita mo naman ang temperament at leadership style ni Pangulo,” Honasan said in a radio interview.
“Kaya siguro marami ang naiingiit sa kanya kaya tinatawag siyang diktador,” said Honasan, one of the President’s allies in the Senate.
He added, “Pero, the Philippine presidency is powerful than the other presidency sa buong mundo. Kasi ‘pag sinabi ng presidente, ‘Tigil,’ tumitigil lahat.”
He said the issue between Alvarez and Sara is normal in a democracy. “Basta di nagkakapikunan.”
“Pero, hindi dapat natin pinapakialaman ‘yan. Dapat ang nakakaalam n’yan si Pangulong Duterte,” he said.
“Baka naman symptom ito ng mas malalim na problema which is wala naman tayong political party system,” the senator said.
He added, “Pag-upo ng bagong administration halos nakikita mo ‘yung tinatawag na political acrobatics.”
“Lahat puntahan sa ruling party. Ganun ang nangyayari kapag ‘di natin pinapalakas ang political party system,” he said.
