JBC begins deliberations for next Chief Justice
Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) has begun deliberating as to who will placed in its shortlist as the next chief justice.
Guevarra, an Ex Officio member of the JBC, said the JBC met Friday (Nov. 9) for the “first screening for the CJ aspirants.”
Only five persons applied for the post which was vacated after retired chief justice Teresita Leonardo-De Castro hung up her robe last Oct. 10.
Those who applied for the post are Justices Antonio Carpio, Diosdado Peralta, Lucas Bersamin, Estela Perlas-Bernabe, and Andres Reyes Jr.
Once the JBC makes its selection, the shortlist will be sent to Malacanang for President Rodrigo Duterte to choose who among the five will become chief justice.
