Jinggoy welcomes Enrile’s political comeback: We need brilliant minds in Senate

Former Senator Jinggoy Estrada has lauded the decision of former Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile to run again for senator in the 2019 midterm elections.
Estrada, Enrile’s party mate in the Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino (PMP), said the former Senate leader’s plan to make another Senate run was a welcome development in the country’s political arena.
“That’s a welcome development. We need more brilliant minds like him in the Senate,” said Estrada.
Estrada was Enrile’s Senate President Pro-Tempore during the 14th and 15th Congress from 2008 to 2013.
The former Senator vowed to support and campaign for his party mate who can make another milestone as the country’s oldest senator if elected next year.
“I will surely help him and I will campaign for him,” said Estrada.
On Tuesday, Estrada filed his COC for Senator at the COMELEC Main Office while Enrile’s lawyer is expected to file the former Senate President’s candidacy.
Both Estrada and Enrile were detained in 2014 due to separate punder charges after being implicated in the multi-billion Pork Barrel scam.
Estrada allegedly pocketed P183.79 million of his Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) allocation by channeling it to the bogus non-government organizations (NGOs) of businesswoman Janet Napoles, the suspected mastermind of the Pork Barrel Scam.
Meanwhile, Enrile allegedly channeled P172.8 million from his PDAF allocations between 2004 to 2010 in some of Napoles’ agencies.
The two former solons are currently both out of detention after being allowed to post respective bails.
