Joel, Risa, JV ask: Where are Duterte’s achievements in SONA?
President Duterte made no mention of any of his achievements in his first year in office, including whether some of those he presented in his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) were realized.
“We were expecting to hear more about his accomplishments and future plans to end ‘endo’ (end of contract). We believe that there is an immediate need to strengthen our labor law compliance system to ensure that companies will truly adhere with our labor laws,” Sen. Joel Villanueva, a member of the majority bloc in the Senate said.
“We have to clearly delineate ‘endo’ from legitimate job contracting. We are hoping that we can have our ‘end endo’ bill passed before the year ends,” said Villanueva, chair of the Senate committee on labor, employment and human resources development.
Sen. Risa Hontiveros also noted Duterte’s speech was “lacking in achievements for the bold promises he made” last year, shortly after he assumed the presidency.
“Whatever good the President said on his SONA was lost due to the sheer weight of his disdain for democratic governance,” she said.
Sen. Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito, considered an ally of the President, admitted that it failed to meet his expectations.
“Medyo kulang ‘yung infrastructure and economic strategy, yung economic direction,” he said.
