Namumuro na: Ed Angara picks Duterte as LDP bet
The Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino (LDP) has joined the growing number of political parties and organizations which have thrown its support behind Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte’s presidential bid.
Former senator Edgardo Angara, the party’s chairman, said LDP chose Duterte because it believes his platform “addresses the core problems of the country, at this crucial juncture in our history.”
“Mayor Duterte offers the best hope for structural change”, Angara said.
Of the five presidential candidates, the former said it is Duterte who has a so-called “peace and prosperity agenda” that will respond to Filipinos’ plight.
In choosing Duterte, LDP ditched its earlier preference for a candidate who could continue and even improve on the reforms made by the Aquino administration.
Angara’s son, Senator Juan Edgardo Angara, even hinted last year that the party might support Senator Grace Poe’s candidacy for president.
The party was part of the administration-led coalition in the 2010 and 2013 elections.
