Jorge Corpuz quits as PCSO chair: Palace denies he got fired
Retired military general Jose Jorge Corpuz has resigned as chairman of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), Malacañang announced Friday (January 11).
Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said in a statement that Corpuz quit his post due to health reasons.
“Mr. Corpuz, for the information of everyone, is not the person whom the President said he will fire for corruption,” he clarified.
Corpuz’s resignation came at the heels of a squabble within the PCSO involving him, General Manager Alexander Balutan and Board Member Sandra Cam.
The former jueteng whistleblower accused Corpuz and Balutan of spending P10 million on PCSO’s Christmas party at a posh hotel in Ortigas.
The two former military generals also supposedly received kickbacks from small town lottery operators who do not declare their actual income to the government.
