JV looking forward to French trip: Balik ako agad, promise!
Senator Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito has vowed to go straight home after attending a week-long “parliamentary” visit in France slated later this month as a token of his appreciation to the anti-graft court for allowing him to travel abroad.
The Sandiganbayan, on Monday (June 19), granted his motion to join his colleagues scheduled to go to Paris on June 25 to July 3, upon the invitation of their French counterparts, even if he has a technical malversation case still pending against him.
Reports said that the prosecution panel strongly objected and tried to block the senator’s trip citing his presence as unnecessary in the event.
But the anti-graft court did not see the senator as a flight risk and gave its go-signal for him to leave for abroad on Sunday (June 25).
The senator expressed his gratitude to the Sandiganbayan, stressing that the said parliamentary visit to France is an “official trip.”
“In fact, after the activity, I will go home right away,” he said.
Ejercito was also in France and Italy only last March with his mother, San Juan City Mayor Guia Gomez who celebrated her 75th birthday there.
The senator also sought the court’s permission and was granted to leave the country for 16 days, from Mar. 28 to April 12, even as he continue to face trial before the Sixth Division on the said case involving alleged anomalous purchase of P2.1 million worth of high-powered firearms during his term as mayor of San Juan City.
