Kailangang magsakripisyo! Ejercito-Estrada brothers running for Senate ‘risky’ for family – JV
By Xave Gregorio
Senator Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito warned that the looming matchup between him and his half-brother former Senator Jinggoy Estrada may be “risky” for their family, whose members would also be mounting their respective political bids in the coming polls.
“Kaysa magkaisa kami ay malaking problema talaga. So sana ma-realize ng lahat ‘yung implications ‘pag natuloy ang ganitong sitwasyon, eh baka lahat pa kami madisgrasya pa. Kailangan may magsakripisyo. I think we are risking too much by having this situation,” Ejercito said over radio dwIZ Saturday (October 13).
The incumbent senator’s mother, San Juan City Mayor Guia Gomez, is stepping down from her post in 2019 and wants Jinggoy’s daughter, San Juan City Vice Mayor Janella Estrada to succeed her.
Meanwhile, in Manila, Mayor Joseph “Erap” Estrada would be eyeing re-election, going against his former vice mayor, Isko Moreno, and former Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim.
Erap’s daughter, Jericka Estrada, is also running for Manila councilor.
While saying that someone has to “sacrifice” in the upcoming elections for the sake of their family, Ejercito also said it would not be him.
“Kung pwede lang akong magsakripisyo, bakit hindi? Kaya lang, on the other hand, naisip ko ‘pag walang magpatuloy, wala nang mangungulit doon sa itinutulak natin, saan na tayo pupulutin?” he said.
But Jinggoy, who has maintained a steady lead over his half-brother in the surveys, is also not backing down.
In protest of this, Ejercito has left Erap’s party, Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino, and jumped to the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) last week.
But there is no escaping Jinggoy even in NPC – JV may have to share a stage with him as the party mulls to back him as one of their senatorial candidates, while Hugpong ng Pagbabago, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte’s regional party, also wants to do the same.
