Koko orders IT team to check if e-mail accounts of opposition senators were indeed hacked
Senate President Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III on Friday ordered the information technology department of the Senate to look into the reported “hacking” of email accounts of staff members of some minority senators.
“Although I haven’t seen any communications from Sen. (Bam) Aquino about this but aksyon na kami since I’ve read about it in the news,” he said.
“I have given instructions to find out from our IT department what our security measures are and if such a thing is possible,” Pimentel said.
In a press conference Thursday, Aquino claimed receiving discovery fake emails sent from hacked email accounts of some of his and Sen. Francis Pangilinan’s staff members, detailing a supposed destabilization plot against the Duterte administration.
Sen. Risa Hontiveros, a member of the minority bloc, said she had also instructed her staff to examine their internet system.
She also wrote Pimentel and Senate Sergeant-at-Arms Brig. Gen. (ret.) Jose Balajadia to asking them to check on cyber security in the Senate.
