Koko: Robredo’s impeachment won’t make Bongbong VP
Defeated vice presidential candidate Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. does not stand to gain from the ouster from office of Vice President Leni Robredo in the event she is impeached, Senate President Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III said Monday (Mar. 20).
“(Vice President) Leni Robredo is the proclaimed vice president so she is now de facto, de jure vice president. If you want to remove the vice president, you impeach her. That’s the process of removal,” he said.
“But if you want to replace her as the winner in the last elections, elections protest is the process,” Pimentel explained.
The Senate President, a bar topnotcher, said that should Robredo be impeached, the new vice president will be chosen by President Rodrigo Duterte from among the members of the two Houses of Congress.
He added that for Marcos to become vice president, he would have to win the poll protest he lodged against Robredo.
House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez has threatened to file an impeachment complaint against the Vice President over her criticism of the government’s drug war in a message to the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs.
