Lagot kayo! De Lima, Roxas, Sueno could face raps over multi-billion peso firetruck deal

Apr 20, 2017 @ 16:17

Senator Leila De Lima and former Interior Secretaries Mar Roxas and Ismael Sueno could face criminal charges over the alleged anomalous billion-peso firetruck deal involving Austrian company Rosenbauer.

Lawyer Leo Romero, the legal counsel of former ABAKADA party-list Representative Jonathan Dela Cruz, disclosed that criminal complaints are being mulled against these individuals .

In the meantime, Romero said that more documents are being gathered for the purpose of filing the criminal complaints.

“I sent a letter to the DILG (Department of Interior and Local Government) requesting for copies of vouchers, certificate of payments, receipts so that we can file appropriate criminal charges for plunder, malversation , graft and violatiion of the procurement law,” said the lawyer.

Romero said the deal, which was done via loan, neither underwent the required public bidding nor was given appropriation by Congress.

“There are two contracts here. The first contract was entered into and executed during the time of the previous administration and the second one Secretary Sueno proceeded to implement,” he explained.

The lawyer said this was one of the reasons why Sueno was fired by Duterte.

“Likewise, Sec. Leila de Lima may be impleaded as she issued and signed a Legal Opinion approving the Supply Contract,” said Romero, who indicated that the legal opinion was released when De Lima was still Justice Secretary.

On Thursday (April 20), Dela Cruz filed a motion asking the Supreme Court (SC) to act on his June 2016 petition, which sought for the issuance of a temporary restraining order (TRO) or a writ for preliminary injunction against the implementation of the deal.
