Lanao del Sur Rep. Ansaruddin Abdul Malik Adiong has refused to punish the controversial ACTS-OFW party-list Rep. Aniceto “John” Bertiz III over his alleged abuse of authority at the airport last month.
During Wednesday’s voting, Adiong was the lone legislator who refused to reprimand Bertiz.
A total of 159 lawmakers on Wednesday voted to formally reprimand Bertiz following his alleged misconduct at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport last September 29.
The three lawmakers who abstained during the voting were Reps. Abudallah Dimaporo (Lanao del Norte – 2nd district) and Khalid Dimaporo (Lanao del Norte 1st district), and Rep. Arnolfo Teves Jr. (Negros Oriental).
House Minority Leader Danilo Suarez (Quezon Province), who motioned to formally reprimand Bertiz, said a suspension was “severe and inappropriate” punishment against Bertiz.
Bertiz has apologized for his alleged abuse of authority when he skirted airport security and harassed an airport personnel. His behavior was caught on airport CCTV footage which became viral on social media.
