Lani Mercado to file Bong Revilla’s Senate candidacy next week

Bacoor City Mayor Lani Mercado is set to file the certificate of candidacy of his detained husband former Sen. Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. next week.
A reliable source told Politiko that Mercado will file Revilla’s COC either on August 16 or 17 at the main office of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) in Intramuros, Manila.
Revilla, chairman of the once powerful Lakas Christian-Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD), is eyeing a Senate comeback afters years in detention on corruption charges.
The former Senator was arrested and detained since June 2014 over his alleged involvement in the pork barrel scam.
He allegedly pocketed P224-million worth of kickbacks by channeling his Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) allocations to the bogus non-government organizations controlled by businesswoman Janet Lim Napoles, the alleged pork barrel scam mastermind.
Despite being marred with corruption allegations, Lakas President Ferdinand Martin Romualdez said Revilla was still “one of the most qualified senatorial aspirants.” He said Revilla’s passion and dedication to serve the people “will bring positive change and help improve the country’s good governance, policies, and lawmaking process.”
