Legarda confirms funding for P100K cash gift for centenarians in 2017 budget

All Filipino centenarians— whether in the Philippines or living abroad— are set to receive a P100,000 cash gift this year because there’s already funding for it in the P3.3-trillion national budget, Senator Loren Legarda has confirmed.

Legarda, chair of the Senate finance committee, said Filipino citizens who are over 100 years old are also entitled to the cash incentive.

“Under the law, Filipino citizens here and abroad who are 100 years old and above will receive P100,000 centenarian gift from the government,” she said.

The funding for the cash gift, she said, was in fulfillment of the Centenarian Law enacted in 2016.

Based on the implementing rules and regulations (IRR) of RA 10868, a centenarian will receive a letter of felicitation from the President and a centenarian gift of P100,000 whether the person is living in the Philippines or not, plus a plaque of recognition and other cash incentives from their respective cities or municipal governments, to be decided by their local government unit.
