Legarda mourns death of ex-senator Leticia Ramos-Shahani
A lady senator mourned the passing of former senator Leticia Ramos-Shahani who died early Monday morning after spending some time in the intensive care unit.
Shahani, sister of former president Fidel V. Ramos, was described by Sen. Loren Legarda as “one of the finest” legislators the Philippines has ever had.
“We mourn the passing of former Senate Pres. Pro-Tempore Leticia Ramos-Shahani, one of the finest and distinguished legislators we ever had,” Legarda said in a statement.
“Manang Letty, thank you for your untiring service to the Filipino nation. You will be missed,” she added.
Legarda, an environment advocate, said that aside from being a legislator, Shahani was also an environmentalist, educator, diplomat, culture and women’s rights advocate.
“…She fervently pushed for women empowerment both here and in the international arena,” the senator said. <>Shahani, who was a senator in 1987, has chaired several committees.
She served as United Nations (UN) Secretary General for Social Development and Humanitarian Affairs.
The late senator also became Foreign Affairs Undersecretary and National Commission on Women Chair. (PNA)
