Lodi! 14-year-old Kulasa joins ‘Eleven,’ Shawn Mendes on TIME’s most influential teens list
A teenage student of St. Scholastica’s College in Manila has been chosen by TIME Magazine as one of the 30 most influential teens of 2017.
Shibby De Guzman was noticed for protesting against the hero’s burial for Ferdinand Marcos and extrajudicial killings.
One of her most memorable acts was carrying a megaphone and wearing a cardboard sign similar to those plastered on bodies of drug suspects.
TIME took notice of how she shut critics who called her and her fellow students “brainwashed.”
“We completely know and understand the injustice we are protesting against,” she said.
De Guzman, who’s now in ninth grade, said she hopes to rally more young people to take action.
“It’s so important that [they] know their own rights and when authorities abuse them,” she said. “There are values that aren’t up for debate.”
De Guzman joins the ranks of celebrities of Millie Bobbie Brown or “Eleven” from the hit Netflix series “Stranger Things,” singer Shawn Mendes, and celebrity kids Willow Smith and Kaia Gerber.
