LOOK: Kuwait Times mocks Duterte as butcher, moron in editorial cartoons

Jul 9, 2017 @ 16:26

Western media outlets are not the only ones critical of President Rodrigo Duterte.

For quite some time now, the Kuwait Times has been coming up with editorial cartoons portraying Duterte as bloodthirsty leader, a butcher and member of the “Moron National Liberation Front.”

The paper’s first caricature of Duterte, which was published in its August 29, 2016 issue, featured Duterte dressed as a butcher as a drawing of a blood-soaked Philippines hung on a hook.

For its September 27, 2016 issue, the paper had a slippers-clad Duterte with his hands, mouth and feet full of guns. He appeared to cross the yellow line labeled “Human Rights Line- Do Not Cross” nonchalantly.

Its October 5, 2016 issue featured a caricature of Duterte holding a gun, with a splatter of blood at the lower side of the frame. The text in the cartoon read: “Do you feel lucky I am the next president of the Philippines? Well, do ya, punk?”

On October 24, 2016, the paper published an editorial cartoon of Duterte in a straitjacket uttering his infamous line on how he would be “happy to slaughter” three million drug addicts.

Following Duterte’s revelation that United States President Donald Trump invited him to the White House, the paper featured an editorial cartoon of the two leaders in straitjackets. They appear to be shouting at each other as they noted how much they have in common.

The Kuwait Times’ most recent caricature of Duterte was published on May 30 this year. The cartoon tagged Duterte as one of the “people you want to avoid at all cost in the Philippines,” similar to local terrorist groups.

Duterte was described in the drawing as a member of the “Moron Liberation Front.” Like the other terrorists, he also held a gun. The text balloon for his image read: “If a lot of people must die, so be it!”

The editorial cartoon came out days after the President declared martial law in Mindanao due to the fighting between government forces and the ISIS-inspired Maute group in Marawi City.
