LOOK: They’ve got balls! Ateneo’s cheerleaders protest EJKs at UAAP halftime performance
Ateneo de Manila University’s cheerleaders once again used their voices and moves to protest against extrajudicial killings (EJKs) and the P1,000 budget given by the House of Representatives to the Commission on Human Rights.
Members of the Blue Babble Battalion raised placards with the phrase, “Stop the EJKs. Uphold Human Rights” during the halftime show of the Blue Eagles’ basketball match against the UP Fighting Maroons Wednesday (September 13) in the UAAP.
A dancer also raised a placard with the sign, “P1,000,” then tore it.
Ateneans have been taking an active stance in sociopolitical issues, protesting against EJKs, the proposed reinstatement of death penalty and the hero’s burial for dictator Ferdinand Marcos.
Around 50 students recently staged a protest outside the school’s gates to denounce EJKs and the killing of 17-year-old Kian Loyd Delos Santos during anti-drug operations.
