LOOK: Yan ba ang holdupper? Carlo Arnaiz’s home shows a hardworking, bright Isko

Sep 4, 2017 @ 22:34

The parents of Carl Angelo Arnaiz are still in shock over his death because they find it unthinkable that their smart, kind-hearted son will be involved in robbing a taxi driver.

Based on the affidavit executed by members of the Caloocan City police who shot Arnaiz dead, the 19-year-old former Interior Design student from the UP College of Home Economics robbed a taxi driver along C-3 road last August 18, took the driver’s wallet and fled the scene.

The police said they saw Arnaiz while they were patrolling the area. When they accosted him, he allegedly opened fire on them, prompting them to fire back.

Aside from the taxi driver’s wallet, the police claimed they also saw marijuana and shabu among Arnaiz’s belongings.

Yet a tour of the Arnaiz’s humble home in Cainta, Rizal, where the teenager was last seen showed he was an achiever who wanted a better life for him and his family.

Kabataan party-list Rep. Sarah Elago posted snapshots from the Arnaiz’s home during her visit Monday (September 4). Among the items she took a photo of were the various medals the teenager bagged in school, the first honors plaque given to him in elementary school, and the items he sold in the small sari-sari store he tended.

Quoting Arnaiz’s uncle, Elago said the teenager had to stop schooling at the University of the Philippines Diliman due to lack of funds.

“Sabi ng tito niya, gusto niyang makatulong muna sa pamilya dahil hirap rin sila sa buhay. Kung nakahanap lang raw siya ng ‘magsponsor,'” she said.

Autopsy by the Public Attorney’s Office showed that Arnaiz bore handcuff marks and his eyes were swollen. He also seemed to have been kneeling when he was shot in the chest several times.

Arnaiz’s death came just two days after 17-year old Kian Loyd Delos Santos was shot by the police in anti-drug operations, also in Caloocan City.

Elago said Arnaiz’s killing showed it is not enough to hold the policemen involved accountable.

“[L]alo pang naging malaki at mabigat ang pangangailangan para daglian nang itigil ang mga pamamaslang, itigil ang Oplan Double Barrel Reloaded at panagutin ang lahat nang nang-aabuso at lumalabag sa karapatang pantao!” she said.
