LP’s ardent wish: No more Volkswagen days, please
Remember then-president Benigno Aquino III’s joke that the entire Liberal Party (LP) membership used to fit inside a Volkswagen?
Ifugao lone district Rep. Teddy Baguilat said Friday (April 21) that LP is mindful about the party’s further shrinking following the May 2016 polls wherein it was dislodged as the top political faction in the country.
“We hope that whatever the decision maybe, we will still have the remaining LPs in the House staying in the party,” said Baguilat, who belongs to the opposition in the House of Representatives (HOR).
It was reported early Friday that the LP members in the Supermajority met with party interim chairman, Vice President Leni Robredo to discuss their immediate future in the current political landscape.
Of the 32 LP members in the HOR, 27 are with the Majority or Supermajority. The remaining five, Baguilat included, form the opposition bloc.
The LP entered a renaissance phase of sorts during Aquino’s tenure in Malacañang from 2010 to 2016. At that time, the number of LP politikos in the HOR swelled to over 100.
Then, following Rodrigo Duterte’s emphatic win in last year’s elections, LP members began to defect to his party, the PDP-Laban.
