Mag-eespiya ba? Duterte shoos media away from East Asia Summit
President Rodrigo Duterte ordered the media to leave the room where he was meeting the heads of state of ASEAN member countries and dialogue partners, but insisted it wasn’t his idea.
In his opening remarks during the 12th East Asia Summit Tuesday (November 14), Duterte said the leaders’ meeting was not open to the media.
“Before I continue, may I request the media to leave the room? It’s not part of my drama. So you have to understand that,” he said.
“The problem is, the working papers of the Secretariat do not like you,” he added, drawing laughter from the crowd.
If it were up to him and other leaders, Duterte said he would allow reporters to cover the meeting.
“It’s not us. We love exposures to media. We are almost all politicians here. But the Secretariat is stiff,” he said.
A day ago, Duterte called the media “spies” as they were ushered out of the room where he was holding bilaterala talks with United States President Donald Trump.
The President’s comment made Trump laugh.
