Malacanang assures Chavit of support in Miss Universe show: But no gov’t funds will be used
President Rodrigo Duterte met former Ilocos Sur Governor Luis ‘Chavit’ Singson in Malacañang on Wednesday night to discuss the ongoing preparations for the staging of Miss Universe 2016 pageant later this month.
The Philippines’ hosting of the 65th Miss Universe is undertaken by Singson’s LCS Group of Companies in cooperation with the Department of Tourism (DOT).
During the meeting, Singson talked of the security arrangements to be implemented for the staging of the different pre-pageant activities in the areas where the events will be held like Cebu and Baguio as well as the main coronation night at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City on January 30, 2017.
The President reassured Singson of the government’s cooperation and support for the international event which Malacanang had earlier said is expected to “bring the Philippines international prestige, publicity, good will, economic benefits and show off to the world that natural attractions and modern infrastructure of the country as well as the Filipinos’ warmth and hospitality.”
Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, on behalf of the President, even issued Memorandum Circular No. 13 that enjoined all government offices to lend support to the pageant when and where needed but without disrupting the work and services in public offices and without using government funds.
