Red purge? Duterte removes 3 DSWD officials with leftist ties

A top Palace official on Monday confirmed that three officials of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) were removed by President Rodrigo Duterte from their position.
“Yes. We expect the new secretary to bring his own team to provide better services to the public,” said Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea in a message.
On Sunday, Duterte terminated the appointment of DSWD Undersecretary for Promotive Operations and Programs Group Maria Lourdes Turalde-Jarabe, Undersecretary for Protective Operations and Programs Group Mae Ancheta-Templa, and Undersecretary for Disaster Response Management Group Hope Hervilla.
Medialdea also denied that the official’s affiliation with leftist groups had to do with their termination.
“No naman. Formation of a good team,” he said.
In a media release, DSWD Assistant Secretary Glenda Relova said Turalde-Jarabe, Ancheta-Templa, and Hervilla did not hesitate to step down from their posts as they were aware that they serve at the pleasure of the President.
“Indeed, we all serve at the pleasure of the President. We assure the public that the delivery of services will continue,” Relova added. ##
The three undersecretaries left their posts last November 14, 2018.
