Merkel asks Trump for a handshake, but gets snubbed

After a short delay, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and US President Donald Trump met for the first time on March 17 (Friday).

The meeting was earlier postponed because of a winter storm in the US.

According to a video posted by BBC News on March 17, Merkel asked Trump, “Do you want to have a handshake?”

Merkel apparently asked Trump after a member of the press asked, “Can we get a handshake?”

But since there was no response for Trump, who was not looking at his visitor, the German leader seemed to have just shrugged it off and smiled.

The two later did shake hands, BBC News said.
