Minsan lang pagbibigyan: Duterte to fire airport officials if luggage theft happens again
President Rodrigo Duterte has threatened to fire airport officials if luggage theft happens again at the Clark International Airport.
Duterte issued the threat Thursday during a meeting in Malacañang Park with Clark airport officials and two overseas Filipino workers who allegedly lost P80,000 to thieves upon their return to the country.
“The next time, if it happens, I will fire you. Sigurado ‘yan. Basta may nangyari pa ulit na maski nakawan o ano, I will fire you,” Duterte told airport officials.
“For the other airports in the country, I do not want it repeated ever again,” he added.
Duterte said it “breaks” his heart to hear about OFWs whose luggage have been pilfered because of their sacrifices in working abroad.
“Very unsettling kasi sa akin ‘yan after making that passionate and solemn promise that everything sa airport, lalo na sa maliit, lalo na sa maliit na tao,” he said.
Also in attendance at the meeting were victims Jovinal Dela Cruz and Rosemary Verzosa, who were victimized by the theft.
Dela Cruz arrived on December 23, 2017 but his luggage arrived the following day. It was only on January 10 that he was allowed to claim it.
To his surprise, he found his luggage torn and the zippers broken. His balikbayan box was virtually empty.
