Mr. Trillanes goes to Washington: Find out why Duterte’s top critic is meeting with US senators
Senator Antonio Trillanes IV is currently making the rounds at Capitol Hill in Washington, DC in a bid to convince United States President Donald Trump to cancel his trip to the Philippines in November, Politiko has learned.
According to Politiko’s source, Trillanes is making personal visits to the offices of US senators to convince them to condemn extrajudicial killings (EJKs).
In particular, the senator is targeting Republican lawmakers and asking them to help convince Trump not to push through with his visit to the Philippines next month.
This, he said, will be Trump’s way of condemning the EJKs that have supposedly happened under President Rodrigo Duterte.
Trillanes is reportedly claiming that he has the Philippine Senate’s full backing for his visit.
Trump will be in the Philippines in November for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Leaders’ Summit.
The US President has praised Duterte for doing a “great job” in fighting illegal drugs.
