Mukha kayong pera! Duterte vows to block ABS-CBN’s franchise renewal
ABS-CBN is in for a rough sailing in terms of renewing its congressional franchise as no less than President Rodrigo Duterte vowed to make sure the network will be unable to operate beyond 2020.
In a speech in Boracay Thursday (November 8), Duterte lashed out at ABS-CBN anew over its supposed refusal during the 2016 election campaign season to air his ads even though he paid for it.
The President slammed former ABS-CBN chairman Eugenio “Gabby” Lopez III for airing the ads of then-vice presidential contender Senator Antonio Trillanes IV that attacked Duterte.
“Ikaw, Gabby. Inuna mo pa „yung advertisement ni Trillanes na hindi ikaw. Pinaniraan ako ng mga bata. ‘Ay si Duterte killer.’ Sa batas there was an injunction na hindi pwede ‘yan kasi bawal gamitin mo ang bata. And yet pumunta talaga kayo, went ahead with the show and made it public,” he said.
Duterte said that while he has no use for ABS-CBN since he’s no longer running for public office after his term ends, he cannot just let what the network did to him pass.
He claimed he’s not the only politiko whose ads were not aired by ABS-CBN, naming Senator Francis Escudero, who ran for vice president in 2016, as among those whose payment for commercial placements amounted to nothing.
“P***** i** mo niloko ninyo kami. Marami kami hindi lang ako. Kaya kayo hindi ko kayo palusutin. Yung franchise ninyo matatapos. But let me ask you questions first. Kasi ako talagang mag-object na ma-renew kayo. Alam mo bakit? Magnanakaw kayo. Estapador,” he said.
Duterte advised the network to have its commentators review what they did to him before criticizing him for allegedly having secret bank accounts.
“Kaya before you answer yang mga commentators ninyo, kindly review the records sa network ninyo. Mukha kayong pera lahat. Mga p***** i** ninyo. ‘Yan ang totoo,” he said.
