My beautiful Philippines! Roilo Golez dies of heart attack after patriotic tweet
Former National Security Adviser Roilo Golez has died Monday (June 11). He was 71.
Citing information from House Minority Floor Leader Danilo Suarez, House Majority Floor Leader Rudy Fariñas said Golez died of a heart attack.
According to ABS-CBN, Golez was supposed to give an interview over ANC earlier in the day about the maritime row in the South China Sea but begged off because he felt unwell.
Hours before he died, Golez tweeted how beautiful the Philippines is. His tweet was accompanied by a photo of a person jumping off the cliff into Cantingas River in Sibuyan, Romblon.

Golez, an officer of the Philippine Navy, graduated from the Philippine Military Academy and the United States Naval Academy.
He later served as postmaster general under former President Ferdinand Marcos but later withdrew support for the dictator.
Golez represented the lone district of Parañaque City in Congress from 1992 to 2001.
He served as National Security Adviser of former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo from 2001 to 2004.
Golez has been outspoken about asserting the country’s rights to the West Philippine Sea.
On June 9, he urged the government to file a strongly worded diplomatic protest against China after members of the Chinese Coast Guard were caught on video taking fishes from Filipino fishermen at Scarborough Shoal.
We Filipinos should stand up for this man.
Mr. President, Sir, I appeal to you to order the filing of a strong, publicly announced diplomatic protest.
