Nagpumilit talaga! Duterte: Faeldon wanted out of BOC to avoid ‘more trouble’ for gov’t
President Rodrigo Duterte said Bureau of Customs chief Nicanor Faeldon “insisted” on leaving his post amid the controversies hounding the graft-prone agency.
In a speech before members of the Philippine Air Force Dragon Boat team in Malacañang Tuesday night (August 22), however, Duterte maintained Faeldon is “clean.”
“Faeldon has insisted that he be separated. He does not want to add more trouble sa aking administration but I have expressed that — ako na ang nagsasabi sa inyo: He’s clean,” he said.
“Malaman ko nang malaman ‘yan eh. But sabi niya, ‘alis na lang ako para wala nang masyadong gulo,'” the President added.
There have been calls for Faeldon to quit following the entry of a shabu shipment worth P6.4 billion from China into the country.
Duterte earlier revealed that Faeldon asked to quit his post as Customs Commissioner thrice due to the corruption within the BOC.
Granting Faeldon’s request, Duterte on Monday (August 21) announced the impending appointment of Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Director General Isidro Lapeña as Customs commissioner.
