Nakaka-concern na: SWS survey says Duterte still enjoys high satisfaction, but harsh words cause for worry

President Rodrigo Duterte still enjoys a high satisfaction rating in the fourth quarter of 2016, but Filipinos are getting concerned over his rants, a new survey by Social Weather Stations showed.

SWS’ survey conducted Dec. 3 to 6 with 1,500 adults, gave Duterte a net satisfaction rating of +63 (77 percent satisfied, 13 percent dissatisfied and 10 percent undecided).

It was one point below from September’s +64 (76 percent satisfied, 11 percent dissatisfied.

The results of the survey were posted on SWS’ media partner BusinessWorld early Thursday.

SWS classifies net satisfaction ratings of at least +70 as “excellent”; +50 to +69, “very good”; +30 to +49, “good”; +10 to +29, “moderate”; +9 to -9, “neutral”; -10 to -29, “poor”; -30 to -49, “bad”; -50 to -69, “very bad”; and -70 and below, “execrable.”

* Satisfaction dropped in Mindanao

Duterte’s net satisfaction rating dropped by a significant 11 points in Mindanao, to +74 from +85. But this was still deemed “excellent.”

Satisfaction stayed “very good” in the Visayas, at +61 from +62. It was “very good” in “Balance Luzon,” up to +60 from +57. It was also “very good” in Metro Manila at +59 from September’s +58.

Duterte’s satisfaction rating steadied at +64 from +65 among Class D but fell to +61 from +65 in Class E, and to +52 from +56 in Class ABC.

His net satisfaction rating among men fell one grade to “very good” from “excellent” and by five points to +66 from +71. But it rose three points among female respondents to +61 from +58, at “very good.”

By age, his satisfaction rating among 18- to 24-year-olds rose by 15 points and a grade to “excellent” +70 from September’s “very good” +55. It was “very good” among 45- to 54-year-olds, up four points to +65 from +61.

It was “very good” among those aged at least 55 years old, to +56 from +58. But it fell one grade and seven points among 25- to 34-year-olds to a “very good” +66 from an “excellent” +73.

Net satisfaction among 35- to 44-year-olds fell by one grade and six points to a “very good” +65 from “excellent” +71.

Meanwhile, the survey showed 51 percent agreed that Duterte’s publicly cursing some foreign officials may harm the Philippines’ relations with other countries or institutions.
