Nakakasulasok! Paola Alvarez hits Floirendo lover for creating ruckus

Mar 30, 2017 @ 12:02

House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez’s daughter, Department of Finance (DOF) Spokesperson Paola Alvarez has slammed Cathy Binag for “exploiting and twisting” the facts surrounding the legal tiff between the House leader and Davao del Norte 2nd district Rep. Tonyboy Floirendo.

Binag is the live-in partner of Floirendo, owner of banana company Tagum Agricultural Development Company, Inc. (TADECO).

“My family and I are shocked that the spin on the issues has become so crass and juvenile. It is incredible how personal relationships are exploited by Rep. Tonyboy Floirendo’s live-in partner, Ms. Cathy Binag, to twist an otherwise simple question of facts. It’s completely appalling!” Ms. Alvarez said in a statement Thursday, March 30.

“We prefer to keep our personal lives private despite my father, Speaker Bebot Alvarez, and I being in public service and we intend to leave it that way,” she said.

Alvarez appears to be on the warpath against his “friend” and PDP-Laban party-mate Floirendo, whom he has charged with graft before the Office of the Ombudsman in connection with TADECO’s questionable 2004 joint venture agreement (JVA) with the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor).

The Speaker, via House Resolution (HR) no.867, is also prodding the Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability to look into the “disadvantageous” TADECO-BuCor contract.

It was reported Wednesday that the personal feud between Alvarez and Floirendo stemmed from a spat between Binag and the Speaker’s unnamed girlfriend. Ms. Alvarez appears to blame Binag for such reports.

“We hope Ms. Binag will respect that and stop dragging us into her personal issues,” said the DOF mouthpiece .

“At the same time, it deeply hurts my family that the longstanding and cherished friendship with Rep. Floirendo is heading this way.

“But adults that they are, we expect the parties concerned to address the factual issues head-on. After all, in public service public interest is paramount and goes beyond the deepest bonds of friendship,” she further said.
