Nasaktan ka lang: Roque tells Robredo there’s no problem with PH economy
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque on Thursday scoffed at Vice President Leni Robredo’s attempt to turn the tables against President Duterte by telling him to attend to the economic problems of the country instead of insulting her.
“Madam Vice President, wala pong problema ang ekonomiya,” Roque said in a news briefing, reacting to the retaliatory statements of Robredo to the claims of the President on her being an incompetent government official.
The Palace official further defended Duterte’s tag on the Vice President saying that it was made without any malice on the Chief Executive’s part.
“Alam ko pong nasaktan kayo, pero iyong assessment po ni Presidente is an assessment of one who has served almost 30 years in an elective position, in addition to his 10 years being a public prosecutor. So, it’s the assessment of a person who served government for about 40 years. Maybe we should look into the merits of what he said, especially since, alam naman nating lahat na experience ni Vice President is three years as a Congresswoman, and two years as a Vice President.
“So, no – wala naman pong malisya doon sa assessment. It’s just a frank, honest, objective assessment of the President. Otherwise po, hindi na niya hihingin na iyong transition leader should be elected, if he feels that the country will be safe in the hands of the Vice President. So iyon lang po iyon, it’s an honest assessment,” he said.
In disproving Robredo’s claims on the continuing economic woes of the country, Roque said that it’s already a matter of record that the Philippines is already the second fastest growing economy in the world.
“(The) level optimism is all time high, manufacturing output is all time high.
Pero otherwise, all economies in the world po, will agree that we are a darling economy,” Roque further said.
The Palace official, in highlighting the lack of experience of the Vice President in government service, stressed that her credentials are incomparable to Duterte.
“(So) it’s not an insult, it’s an objective assessment of a person who has served 40 years in government,” he said.
