Natuwa pa: Mighty Corp welcomes tax raps

0 1

As if calmly puffing smoke from a cigarette, Mighty Corporation on Wednesday (March 22) welcomed the tax evasion charge filed against it by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR).

“The company welcomes the filing by the BIR of the complaint as it provides us an opportunity to clear our names and show we violated no tax laws,” said its legal counsel, lawyer Sigfrid Fortun, in a statement.

“We will continue to cooperate with the government in its continuing effort at tax collection,” he assured.

The same day, BIR filed before the Department of Justice (DOJ) a P9.5-billion tax evasion case against tobacco company Mighty Corp.

The case stemmed from the discovery that the cigarette producer has been using fake excise tax stamps on its products.
