Ngayon na! UP Diliman to implement free tuition now

Aug 9, 2017 @ 9:15

While the free tuition law signed by President Rodrigo Duterte takes effect next year, the University of the Philippines’ Diliman campus is implementing it now.

UP Diliman Chancellor Michael Tan also said this is in line with UP President Danilo Concepcion’s memo that no fees are to be collected by UP this semester for undergraduates.

“The new law takes effect only in the next school year, 2018-2019 and would cover all state universities and colleges, but UP decided to bite the bullet and begin the implementation immediately, with the current schoolyear,” Tan said (http://upd.edu.ph/new-guidelines-on-tuition-subsidy/).

He added an existing tuition subsidy from the Commission on Higher Education will be used, while miscellaneous fees will be shouldered from each constituent university’s own funds.

UP Diliman is to issue more detailed guidelines on Aug. 9.
