No awkward moment in GMA entry to PDP-Laban, Koko says
Senate President Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III does not see any problem in dealing with the entry to their party, PDP-Laban, of former president and now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
“Hindi naman,” Pimentel said when asked if he feels awkward being in the same party as Arroyo.
“People change and circumstances change especially in politics. We should not close doors or burn bridges unless absolutely called for or warranted,” he said.
Pimentel, it can be recalled ran for senator under the senatorial slate of the opposition’s umbrella group called Genuine Opposition (GO) in 2007, but “lost” but contested the 12th slot initially declared to have Sen. Juan Migul “Migz” Zubiri as the winning candidate before the Senate Electoral Tribunal (SET).
Zubiri ran under the TEAM Unity senatorial line-up of Lakas party, then under the leadership of Arroyo who was the sitting president.
Zubiri resigned after reports came out that election results in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) were marred with irregularities and the SET eventually proclaimed Pimentel as the winning 12th senator in the said mid-term elections.
It is yet to be known whether Arroyo, who is now on her last term as representative of 2nd District of Pampanga, will be drafted in the senatorial line-up of PDP-Laban.
“(I have) no idea yet. Saka na ‘yan. Senate slate will be finalized, maybe in Feb. 2018. But the target date is adjustable. Alam mo naman sa politics, things can change abruptly,” Pimentel, PDP-Laban president, said.
As far as Arroyo is concerned, Pimentel said he does not see a problem especially if she wants to help the cause of federalism which is being pursued by the administration.
“Then why not accept her with open arms?” he said.
