No hard feelings? Bam welcomes female domination in senatorial survey
Senator Bam Aquino feels “great” that women dominated the first top five slots in the survey for winnable candidates in the senatorial polls in 2019.
The latest Pulse Asia survey showed that reelectionist Senator Grace Poe hogged the No. 1 spot with 70.1% voter preference.
The next top 4 slots went to Senator Cynthia Villar (57.7%), Rep. Pia Cayetano (54.4%), Senator Nancy Binay (50.6%), and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio (39.5%).
The Pulse Asia survey was conducted from Sept. 1 to Sept. 7 with 1,800 respondents. Villar and Binay are also reelectionists.
Asked whether the apparent “women power” in the survey results meant something, Aquino said, “I think it’s great.”
“Sa totoo lang, every Senate kulang ang kababaihan dito sa ating institusyon,” he said.
“Hopefully, there will come a time na hati talaga iyan gaya ng ating lipunan,” said Aquino, who dropped to 18th and 23rd bracket–from 13th spot in the July Pulse Asia survey.
The opposition senator added, “I think it’s good that women are there (on the top spots).”
“It’s a good sign na ang mga Pilipino, hindi nakikita ang gender sa pagpili ng liderato nila,” Aquino said.
Pressed whether women politicians have outshone the performance of male legislators, he said, “If you look at the numbers kasi, mas kokonti ang kababaihan.”
“Now in the Senate, I think there’s five or six of them. Hopefully in the next few Senates or next few Congresses, makikita natin na mas pumatas ang dami ng babae at ng lalake,” Aquino said.
