No sacred cow: Guevarra says Australian nun must follow PH laws
Even if the person is a nun, Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra on Tuesday (April 17) stressed any foreigner here in the country aren’t allowed to participate in protest activities.
Guevarra made this point after the Bureau of Immigration (BI) arrest nun Patricia Fox at her home in Quezon City for allegedly violating the conditions of her stay by attending protest rallies and attending political activities.
“Like any other foreigner enjoying the privilege of staying in our country, she has to obey and comply with our laws,” he stated.
The Secretary pointed out “we shall implement our immigration laws fairly and uniformly, without regard to color, race or creed.”
“Sister patricia’s case has nothing to do with her being a nun, nor with her personal advocacies,” he said.
Fox has been accused of being an undesirable alien as she allegedly joined a rally against the government in Tagum City and visited the striking Coca-cola workers in Davao City.
