No more slut-shaming please — Risa Hontiveros

Jan 6, 2017 @ 11:21

Enough is enough.

Senator Risa Hontiveros is taking up the cudgels for women against the culture of misogyny apparently prevailing in society.

“Whether you’re pro-Duterte or not, misogyny is misogyny #NotoSlutShaming,” Hontiveros tweeted in the wake of criticisms on the appointment of popular blogger Mocha Uson to the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB).

Uson, known pro-Duterte supporter, has drawn flak from some netizens for accepting the MTRCB post despite her involvement in alleged lewd projects. The sexy singer however brushed aside the attacks against her, saying these were old news. Now armed with the MTRCB post, she even promised to seek an end to soft porn on primetime television.

Hontiveros, chair of the Senate committee on women, children, family relations, and gender equality, is a proponent of an anti-discrimination bill pending in Congress. The bill seeks to penalize discrimination against sexual orientation and gender identity in schools and workplaces as well as offer members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community equal protection.

Hontiveros earlier lashed out at President Duterte and some lawmakers for their misogynistic attacks against Senator Leila de Lima over a past affair with her former bodyguard Ronnie Dayan.
